Which slugger was nicknamed “Bam Bam”?
A nomadic ballplayer born in Curacao, utility player Hensley Meulens played left field, first base and third base from 1989-1993 for the New York Yankees.
Those were largely unforgettable years for the Bronx Bombers, who didn’t break .500 during Bam Bam’s stay. He eventually played in Japan and played on the Netherlands team in the 2000 Olympics.
He has since become a coach for the Dutch Olympic team and was allegedly interviewed for the vacant Yankees manager job left by Joe Girardi. A different former Yankee got the job instead when the Yanks named Aaron Boone as Girardi’s successor on Dec. 1, 2017.
