What is only USS warship bearing an NFL team logo?
Launched on August 11, 2006, and based out of Nagasaki, Japan, the USS Green Bay is the only known warship in the United States fleet that carries an NFL logo into action.
Granted, we admit this is a bit of a trick question. The USS Green Bay is the second warship named for the Wisconsin town. In fact, every NFL town has had a vessel named for the town. There was even a USS Las Vegas Victory in the 1940s.
However, none of those warships embraced the NFL team associated with their namesake city the way the USS Green Bay. Not only does the famous “G” logo appear everywhere, even on the helicopters that deploy from the ship, but names of Green Bay Packers legends are used as labels. The passageways are all named for actual streets in Green Bay that carry the names of Packers greats such as Brett Favre Pass, Bart Starr Dr., Reggie White Way, and Lombardi Avenue.
A San Antonio Class landing class dock ship, the USS Green Bay is designed to move Marines and amphibious equipment into a war zone. Able to transport 800 Marines along with two Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft and four CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters.
