Which MLB team drafted Bo Jackson?
MLB draft: In 1988, the Kansas City Royals drafted Bo Jackson out of Auburn University in the fourth round.
NFL Draft: In 1986, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made Jackson the No. 1 overall pick.
Details: In a situation similar to John Elway’s, Jackson informed the Buccaneers that he would not play for them. Instead, he decided to play baseball, playing eight seasons with three teams (Royals, White Sox, Angels). Since Jackson never signed with the Buccaneers in 1986, he was entered into the 1987 NFL draft. The Los Angeles Raiders took a chance with the 183rd pick in the seventh round and drafted Jackson. The running back eventually played four seasons for the Raiders. Jackson is the only athlete in history to play NFL football and to be named the MVP of MLB’s All-Star Game (1989).
